| Real Wireless helps wireless operators, regulators and users get business benefits from wireless technology. This newsletter contains some examples: from capacity in stadiums to rural coverage, and from the challenges of urban small cells and city Wi-Fi to the roadmap for 5G. | | |
| Wireless in Stadiums | | |
|
| Wireless coverage in stadiums and venues has the opportunity to make a huge difference to customer satisfaction, as well as improving stadium profitability and efficiency. Find out more via our White Paper. | | |
| Slovenia & Scotland: Lessons for Rural Coverage | | |
| Real Wireless has recently completed two projects on how governments & regulators can improve cellular coverage in rural areas. Given that 4G may be the only viable broadband for rural areas this is an important part of the EU’s Digital Agenda to deliver 30Mbps to citizens by 2020. | | |
| We worked with SQW on a project for the Scottish Government on 4G coverage, how this affects the economy and the policy implications. 4G will improve both data and voice connectivity across Scotland to a striking degree, and it will happen faster than many expect – but there are still many policy options that would significantly improve both speed and coverage. Find out more. | | |
| In Slovenia we helped the regulator set the license conditions and coverage obligations. From our experience working with Ofcom on the UK auctions, we were able to advise on how the potential costs would vary and how best to balance the different factors to get the best results for the country. | Urban small cell business case | | |
|
| The Small Cell Forum has just announced Release Four – Urban. A major part of this is the business case from Real Wireless; a comprehensive technical and financial examination of the balance of benefits and costs, including backhaul, macrocell and fibre deployments. For example, in a typical dense, urban area we find that the deployment of small cells to enhance capacity yields a Return on Investment of 136%. | | |
| We found a number of important and surprising conclusions including how small cells can help depth of coverage for operators without <1GHz spectrum. Download here. | | |
| More than half of operators polled found the Business Case the most useful part of Release Four. More details. | | |
| The road to 5G | | |
|
| As LTE becomes steadily more mainstream, the focus is now switching to 5G, with expectations of deployment around 2020. Real Wireless is involved in a number of projects on this, and in the article below Rupert Baines contemplates some of the technology innovations worth watching. | | |
| We will be presenting on the 'path to 5G' at LTE-WS. To arrange a meeting during the event, click here. | | |

| City Wi-Fi: Fools Rush In | | |
|
| Newcastle City Council has struck a deal to install free Wi-Fi across key public areas. | | |
| Real Wireless acted as expert advisors in the process, defining requirements, supporting the tender, assessing bids against requirements and negotiations. We helped to ensure that the chosen solution provided both good technology and good value for money. Find out more. | | |

| 240,000 fans can’t be wrong: One Direction show stadium challenges | | |
| As One Direction fans shared a staggering number of tweets, messages and ‘selfies’ from their 2014 Stadium tour, the density of mobile traffic was over one hundred times that of peak time central London. Find out more. | | |
| Speaking at the Stadium Business Summit, Real Wireless’ Mark Keenan used the gig, and the recent Superbowl (where over 3TB of cellular data was used, 800% up on 2013) as examples of how wireless traffic in venues is growing explosively. Real Wireless has unparalleled independent expertise in wireless in stadiums: click here for more details or click here to schedule a meeting. | | |
