Real Wireless helps drive coverage in City of London

Real Wireless experts have provided deployment advice and modelling to support a project to install 4G mobile small cells across the Square Mile. The initiative will lay the foundations for 5G deployment in London.

Cornerstone Telecommunications Infrastructure Ltd (CTIL) has won a 15 year concession to market the Corporation's assets to mobile operators to support the deployment of small cells. This type of network densification is necessary to expand the existing coverage and enable high bandwidth services such as video-calling and video on demand throughout The City of London. The City has over 400,000 daily commuters and 5 million annual visitors – so ensuring they remain connected and laying the foundations for future Smart City initiatives were key requirements of this procurement. Such large peaks of demand present challenges for mobile operators and City management

Real Wireless worked as part of CTIL's bid team to provide technical advice on small cells, including deployment, coverage modelling, capacity requirements, backhaul and the long-term use of small cells in the City. John Okas, Strategic Wireless Business Consultant at Real Wireless said: "This was a complex project and one in which all partners have worked hard to deliver the very best solutions for the City of London". The business of 5G

space
space

Why all this talk about 5G when we'll need to sweat LTE for the foreseeable future? Are IoT timelines aligned with the 5G roadmap? Does anyone really know whether orchestration and management technologies are sufficiently mature to handle the complexities of dense and diverse HetNets? And what's the commercial justification for intense network densification?

Right now we're getting asked a lot about network evolution and the path to 5G and we sense growing unease about timelines, technologies and investment strategies. We're privileged to be involved in key international projects, such as 5G NORMA, which aims to deliver an adaptive and future-proof 5G architecture and puts us at the heart of EU wide strategy and thinking. This type of cutting edge policy work gives our experts unique insights into the underlying technical and commercial considerations that we can use to help clients inform their investment strategies.

I personally found the launch of our new website a great opportunity to reassess and better frame what we do and the huge amount of knowledge and experience we have across the business. Take a look around at the use cases, publications and insight we make available to our clients.

Conference season is upon us and I'm sure we'll see a lot of you at one of the events. Get in touch if you want to meet up and learn more about how we can help make your business stronger.

Experts appear at Small Cells World Summit

space
space

Both our CEO Mark Keenan and CTO Simon Fletcher chaired sessions at SCWS World in London last week. Discussions focussed on the roll of small cells in meeting immediate demand for improved connectivity - as well as longer term plans for 5G.

We took part in some lively sessions on meeting the wireless and fixed demands of enterprises and venues. There is increasing realisation from enterprises that they can take more responsibility for managing and improving connectivity in the environments they control  - and that small cells might be the way to do it. Something we're supporting a number of clients to achieve.

We'll update on this and more outcomes from SCWS in our next newsletter.
