In three exclusive blogs, we assess the many variables in the race to 5G. Network readiness, a core consideration? Are we really laying the best possible foundations for 5G? While progress is being made in standardisation, trials, equipment and densification modelling, there's a growing recognition that technology readiness isn't enough. As the industry tries to clarify what 5G could mean, Simon Fletcher takes a look at why network readiness is equally important. More>> Raising our gameWhere 5G is concerned there’s a lot to be ready for: ubiquitous mobile broadband, massive IoT and evolved mission-critical communications at the very least. Some attendees at the recent 5G World Summit were suggesting even more categories for user demand, quite apart from how that demand will play out in terms of service evolution. And then there's the cultural changes the industry needs to undergo. For example, to what extent have MNOs streamlined their site surveys in readiness for the huge densification exercise that lies just around the corner? The pressure is on operators and vendors to meet increasing expectations, so is it time we all raised our game? More>> 5G is comingIn the same week as chairing at the 5G World Summit, Simon Fletcher also chaired a Techno-economics and Business Models workshop at EuCNC in Finland. At that workshop presenters did a great job of showing the huge variety of approaches that can be applied to establish 5G viability. Simon shares exclusive insight from both events. Exclusive access to enterprise report

When I was asked to moderate a closed session of major enterprises at SCWS World to discuss wireless connectivity challenges, the conversation ranged over a lot of scenarios. This is hardly surprising, given that the backgrounds of the various attendees differed a great deal. What they had in common was an interest in the potential of wireless for their businesses, customers and visitors — and an awareness that developing a wireless business case that works offers challenges. But it soon became clear that they are not always the same challenges. Read report here> The customers are taking charge |
