5G auction is just the start

The auction is complete. The six spectrum bidders became five (and then four) as UK national regulator, Ofcom, announced the outcome of the 2.3GHz and 3.4GHz spectrum auction at the start of April.

As the spectrum frequencies are allocated and licenses issued, we asked Real Wireless expert Dr Abhaya Sumanasena what happens next?

First meeting of 5G testbeds

Simon Fletcher attended the first meeting of all six projects being funded as part of the UK government's 5G Trials and Testbeds Scheme. Each testbed will receive between £2 million and £5 million in government grants, as part of a total investment of £41m from private sector and other public sector funding.

5G+ edge brings more opportunities

As 5G+ edge tests mount up around the world, Dr Abhaya Sumanasena takes a look at how researchers in Bristol, UK are bringing together 5G, 4G and Wi-Fi to give an “always connected” experience. This project includes a live 5G proof of concept (PoC) to test smart city applications in the city centre, as part of a joint research initiative led by the university, BT and Nokia.
