Focus on 5G and Smart Ports

Techno-economic benefits of 5G No images? Click here Techno-economic benefits of 5G 5G will deliver significantly higher data rates, lower latency and increased capacity. But diving deeper, what does the rollout of 5G actually look like for enterprises? What real-world economic benefits will it provide?  The Port of Hamburg is Europe's third largest seaport. In 2018 it handled 8.7 million TEUs (that's containers to you and me!), and the port site covers more than 7,000 hectares. As part of a two-year project, Real Wireless  assessed the commercial drivers in play throughout the port to design and deliver a resilient network capable of guaranteeing quality of service across a range of important use cases. The concepts and enablers were interrogated by way of prototype implementations in two testbeds (the Smart Sea Port in Hamburg and the Touristic City in Turin). Our summary report describes real-world implementations that explore network reliability, resilience and security, and resource elasticity. The shadow over 5G

A shadow over 5G? No Images? Click here A shadow over 5G? Do consumers really want 5G?  Will they pay any extra for the eye-watering data speeds that have been promised? Or is 5G an answer in search of a question? In recent months, the technology hype cycle has continued to run its course, with a broad range of reports and commentators interrogating the 5G value proposition. Some of this analysis is pertinent -– for example, relating to the urgent need to improve deployment regulation as well as planning and orchestration tools to cut costs and maximise assets in dense networks.
