Those days are long gone. For many years, tower companies have been seen as a driving force behind multi-operator infrastructure sharing. We believe towercos and neutral hosts are set to become still more significant in the 5G era. At the same time, while pure-play towercos still exist, many have been branching out for years.

Independent towercos: the outsourcing opportunity

Back in 2008, the financial downturn made selling off towers and leasing them back seem like the sensible approach for MNOs, reducing opex and helping to replenish significantly reduced coffers at the same time.

Now ramping user demand and 5G rollout promise to reinforce and extend that trend, with densification already playing a part. IoT development will accelerate it even faster.
