Sharing spectrum, sharing networks Unsubscribe No Images? Click here The case for spectrum sharingAll spectrum sharing approaches have their limitations. That’s why Real Wireless has developed a framework for individual MNOs and regulators to compare sharing approaches. At a recent UK Spectrum Policy Forum meeting on Release Mechanisms & Flexible Spectrum Access, Dr. Abhaya Sumanasena was invited to give a Real Wireless perspective on spectrum options. Daring to shareAnd it's not just spectrum sharing that implies new business models. In South Korea, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced recently that the three mobile operators, and one ISP, SK Broadband, would share the cost of building the infrastructure for a 5G network. This would save them about $938m over a decade. John Okas asks if this is the shape of things to come. ![]() Waveforms – tomorrow on trialThere have been several attempts to develop new waveforms for 5G, based on enhanced OFDM implementations or on new approaches. And although most activity is still only at the trial stage, there’s no doubt that 5G waveforms are already inspiring some diverse approaches that our clients will want us to assess. Real Wireless CTO Simon Fletcher explains why. ![]() 5G, Industry 4.0 and the future of British manufacturingSome UK-based manufacturers, such as Jaguar LandRover, have been heavily involved in 5G trials. It remains unclear how critical 5G connectivity will be to this sector. While the jury may be out in the UK, in the Nordic countries there has been a recent upswell of trials in 5G-enabled manufacturing. We ask whether this could this prove instructive for the sector in the UK? ![]() What are we like? We often get asked about our methodology – how we work, the kind of tools we use and how we run projects. This is especially important to clients outside the communications industry who don't want to get involved in technical detail – they just want connectivity to work. In this short video, Real Wireless CEO Mark Keenan reveals all. ![]() Our privacy policy Don't forget you can unsubscribe at any time (by clicking the 'unsubscribe' link in the footer or at the top of this email). 5G special : transport, agriculture & cities
5G special : transport, agriculture & cities Unsubscribe No Images? Click here ![]() 5G auction is just the startThe auction is complete. The six spectrum bidders became five (and then four) as UK national regulator, Ofcom, announced the outcome of the 2.3GHz and 3.4GHz spectrum auction at the start of April. As the spectrum frequencies are allocated and licenses issued, we asked Real Wireless expert Dr Abhaya Sumanasena what happens next? First meeting of 5G testbedsSimon Fletcher attended the first meeting of all six projects being funded as part of the UK government's 5G Trials and Testbeds Scheme. Each testbed will receive between £2 million and £5 million in government grants, as part of a total investment of £41m from private sector and other public sector funding. 5G+ edge brings more opportunitiesAs 5G+ edge tests mount up around the world, Dr Abhaya Sumanasena takes a look at how researchers in Bristol, UK are bringing together 5G, 4G and Wi-Fi to give an “always connected” experience. This project includes a live 5G proof of concept (PoC) to test smart city applications in the city centre, as part of a joint research initiative led by the university, BT and Nokia. ![]() Is UK farming ready for 5G?Smart agriculture is said to be the second biggest IoT opportunity, in terms of revenue potential for mobile operators, after smart buildings. As the UK government recently announced funding for a 5G Rural Integrated Testbed (5GRIT), led by Quickline Communications, we ask is the UK farming industry ready for IoT? Simon Fletcher takes us through the issues. ![]() Video: Autonomous Vehicles In a series of expert interviews, we spoke to Real Wireless Strategic Wireless Expert, John Okas about autonomous vehicles and connected cars. ![]() Video: UK5G launch at BT Tower No race, no finish line, just cooperation to build one big global network. Telecom TV filmed the launch of the UK5G Innovation Network in London. ![]() Our privacy policy We are in the process of implementing the GDPR 2018 requirements.
