Real Wireless reports have been making an impact this month. Our work for TalkTalk has prompted Ofcom to recommend a change the licence conditions. Also in this month's newsletter, we look at Wi-Fi on trains and the vital role of data analytics in making investment decisions.
Real Wireless plays crucial role in TalkTalk spectrum variation request to Ofcom
Ofcom has formally recommended to change the licence conditions in the “DECT guard band” after TalkTalk submitted a variation request. The regulator’s preliminary view cited three Real Wireless reports that were commissioned by TalkTalk, which asked us to conduct an independent technical study into the potential interference with uses in adjacent bands.
Last year the UK Government announced an ambitious target to implement free Wi-Fi on trains by 2017. As the deadline creeps ever closer, it is clear that the technical challenges associated with implementing on-board Wi-Fi won’t go away. Real Wireless’ Telecoms Director Oliver Bosshard reports back from the Going Underground event, which discussed the associated technical challenges.
Why data analytics is key to the future of mobile networks and user experience
A recent update from Ericsson forecasts significant growth across the communications industry, including mobile broadband and LTE subscriptions in addition to voice and data traffic.
The report also covers the predicted rise of IoT connected end point, the impact of 5G services and a rise in Voice over LTE. One of the key conclusions of the report is that managing user experience in key for both network operators and infrastructure providers. As such, data analytics are essential to understand network investment and to keep churn low.
